What is Motion Detection?
Motion Detection in the surveillance industry means the video surveillance solution's ability to use the video content to determine whether there is any motion in front of the camera or not.

Typically, the detection is done by the camera and the video management system receives the motion event and then handles it. The way the conventional motion detection works is the analysis of the change of the scene throughout multiple video frames. However, the conventional motion detection may produce lots of false alarms. Trees waving, light reflections, shadows moving - for the conventional motion detection algorithm these are all potential triggers of the alarm. The overwhelming false alarms will make the security management very inefficient.

What is Smart Motion Detection?
ACTi's Smart Motion Detection is the advanced AI-based algorithm inside ACTi's cameras that is able to analyze every video frame and detect specific object types, such as people or vehicles, and only send the alarm to the VMS when such pre-defined objects move in the view of the camera.

This way, all the false alarms are avoided. Furthermore, it is possible to specify which type of object should be included in the alarm and which types should be ignored, depending on the end user's application.

Motion is the Key Factor
Although ACTi's AI cameras also have People Detection and Vehicle Detection algorithms as separate features, the Smart Motion Detection is specifically focusing on the MOTION of these objects.

This allows, for example, the monitoring of the high value parking lots. Whenever the vehicles are parked, although the cameras can see them, the parked vehicles will not trigger any alarms. However, as soon as the vehicle is being moved, the security will be notified instantly as the motion of that type of object occurred. Then the parking lot security personnel can immediately assess whether the movement of the vehicle was expected or should there be any instant interference.

Solutions

It is possible to use ACTi's Smart Motion Detection cameras together with ACTi's ZNR-series NVR or with Windows-based NVR 3 servers. The VMS will receive the alerts from the cameras and handle the events by video pop-up, sound alert, sending an email alert and more.
