Event Trigger

Receive events from the camera, such as motion detection, or NVR to activate certain automatic processes inside the VMS.

Overview

What is an Event?

In the VMS architecture, an event is an occurring situation that has been acknowledged by the NVR automatically without human assistance. The purpose of having VMS understanding the events is to automate security surveillance.

Event Trigger Types

The events can be received from the different sources - IP surveillance cameras, other network devices or even the VMS itself. The events may sometimes have the levels of importance or priority - for example, the event of detecting crowd gatherings can be divided into the critical event (large crowd) and standard event (smaller crowd).

Events from the Camera

Video Motion Detection
Sound Detection
Gunshot Detection
External Device via Digital Input
AI Analytics Based Detections or Recognitions

Events from the Other Devices

The other devices can send the events to the VMS typically either via IP camera's digital input port or via special network IO box.
Panic Button
Emergency Button
Smoke Detector
Passive Infrared Sensor
Magnetic Contacts of Windows and Doors
Glass Break Detector

Events Created by VMS

In addition to receiving events from the devices, the VMS can also receive events created by itself.

Applications

The purpose of the event triggering system is to:

  1. Improve the situational awareness
  2. Speed up the responses to the ongoing incidents
  3. Create the log of the incidents for the investigation purposes
  4. Provide high reliability of the system
  5. Save the labor cost

Solutions

All ACTi VMS products contain Event Handler system that is able to process incoming events, prioritize them if necessary, and log them for the playback and investigation purposes.
