What is On-Duty Sleeping Detection?
On-Duty Sleeping is a behavior associated mostly with the office or factory employees using the desks and seats. During the working hours the employees are expected to fulfill their tasks and stay active. When the person puts their head on the desk and stays motionless for a period of time then the AI-based surveillance system will trigger an alarm.

How Does it Work?
The surveillance camera will be installed so that the desks are in the view of the camera. The system will be configured by defining the working hours as well as the threshold for idleness to trigger an alarm.

The on-duty sleep detection is often used for the large open offices and factories with the desks. In many cases, it does not necessarily need immediate intervention, but it can be used by the human resources department for the assessment later.

It can also be used to detect the security officers sleeping at their post at the gate booth, for example. That would trigger an instant alarm because of the security risks.

There are also business applications where the sleeping person is responsible for serving customers, such as reception desks in the hotels or check-out counters in the retail stores. A sleeping employee in such locations would not only affect the service quality but might lead to worse reputation of the business and the owner might want to prevent that using the AI-assisted solution.

It is possible to use ACTi's On-Duty Sleep Detection cameras together with ACTi's ZNR-series NVR or with Windows-based NVR 3 servers. The VMS will receive the sleep detection alerts from the cameras and handle the events by video pop-up, sound alert, sending an email alert and more.

Furthermore, some of the latest ZNR-series NVR servers have the built-in Sleep Detection capability - it is possible to use a regular surveillance camera without built-in AI and still run the sleep detection thanks to the NVR-side AI capabilities.
