Modbus Integration

Modbus integration enables a Video Management System (VMS) to seamlessly exchange alarms, status, and control signals with parent systems such as SCADA, BMS, PSIM, and access control platforms, allowing video to function as a real-time operational and safety sensor within industrial and critical-infrastructure environments.

概要

Modern Video Management Systems (VMS) have evolved from passive video-recording platforms into active event and operational intelligence systems. In industrial, utility, transportation, and critical-infrastructure environments, VMS must interact with higher-level parent systems such as SCADA, BMS, EMS, and PSIM.

Modbus, particularly Modbus TCP, remains one of the most widely deployed industrial communication protocols. By integrating VMS with parent systems via Modbus, organizations can achieve real-time event signaling, alarm synchronization, and operational automation without introducing proprietary middleware or complex APIs.

ACTi's Modbus Adapter

To allow parent systems access ACTi's various VMS platforms via Modbus, ACTi has created a Modbus Adapter utility that acts as a brigde between ACTi's VMS that uses ONVIF or ACTi's proprietary protocol, and the third party parent system. By using the Modbus Adapter, there is no need to modify the VMS system.

Integrated Features of ACTi's NVR 3 via Modbus

The following features can be used via Modbus:

Get status from NVR 3:

  1. Camera network loss
  2. Camera disk write failure
  3. System disk not found

Set status to NVR3:

  1. Camera access allowed
  2. Camera access denied
  3. Camera access unknown
  4. Camera alarm
  5. Camera panic alarm

ソリューション

ACTi's NVR 3 can be linked with the third party systems using a convenient Modbus adapter. The full solution is introduced here.
