The area counting is used most commonly for the traffic jam detection or for the full parking lot detection. The operator sets up the threshold condition above which the situation is considered a traffic jam or a full parking lot and required response. When the situation occurs, the camera will alert the control center.
The accumulated counting can be used to assess the traffic situation where the vehicles pass by the camera one by one, potentially in both directions. By doing the accumulated counting of both directions, the camera would be able to assess how many vehicles have passed by. This allows making efficient city traffic analyses, to optimize traffic flows, adjusting the traffic lights cycles and more.
The accumulated counting can also be used to assess the occupancy of the larger parking lot where the camera does not see the parking spots but only the gate. In such case, the current occupancy of the parking lot can be assessed by calculating the difference between entering and exiting vehicles.
