ACTi Goes Green: No Bundled Power Adapters for PoE Cameras from 2012.01.01
The beauty of IP surveillance technology compared analog systems is to save the installation cost by using just one cable instead of many. With just one Ethernet cable it is possible to transmit video, audio, PTZ commands, activate alarm devices, and even provide power supply for the camera.
Today, more than 80% of the IP camera installations are using Power over Ethernet either by using PoE switches or PoE injectors. For example, it is very convenient to maintain the power supply for 16 cameras with just one single PoE switch compared to having 16 power supply access points installed in each camera location. The trend of lowering prices of modern PoE switches makes the PoE solution even more attractive and affordable.
The power adapters that have always been included in camera packages are no longer used in actual installation. It has led to the situation where hundreds of power adapters are piling up in system integrators’ offices and storages without any practical use.
Starting from January 1, 2012, ACTi will “go green” – there will be no bundled power adapters included in the packages of PoE cameras any more. The benefits of the new policy are:
* There are no more useless adapters piling up with difficulty to get rid of
* There will be less adapters produced and it helps with saving the resources of our planet as well as reduces pollution
* The shipped camera packages will be lighter by removing the heavy needless adapters from them which in many cases can reduce the shipping expenses
