At Taipei County's traffic control center, ACTi's IP surveillance hardware and total software solution has been chosen to monitor the county’s traffic status and provide accurate and real time traffic condition reports to the mass media and general public living in Taipei County.
Taipei County's traffic conditions have long be heralded as being always congested and inefficient. In order to rectify the situation and allow the general public to also monitor the traffic, the Traffic control center had the tough task to reduce traffic congestion and find ways to improve traffic conditions and transport methods. The best way considered was to provide the necessary data for analysis via gathering accurate video images in a real time environment.
Therefore, Taipei County chose to use a remote monitoring solution based on IP architecture. This would provide the required real time monitoring of traffic conditions as well as real time broadcasting to other media (such as general TV and public website) sources.
ACTi's SED-2120 video servers were selected as the hardware of choice to transmit the monitored video images, as well as remotely control the pan, tilt, zoom movements of the analog speed domes.
At each monitored road way, an Analog speed dome connected to an ACTi SED-2120 video server. The video server was hooked to a network ADSL hub at each monitored location, and each ADSL hub was linked to each other until reaching a general server that linked to the control center. The control center deployed 2 large display screens for the traffic monitoring purpose, one screen displaying the real time video streamed from ACTi's SED-2120. Media sources would also utilize the video drawn from the general server, displaying the broadcasted traffic conditions on the other monitor screen.
At the traffic control center's server room, there was a dedicated broadcast server that streamed the live monitoring video from ACTi’s NVR to a general website where the public could access and view real time traffic conditions. ACTi’s streaming engine (part of NVR) played an important role in this deployment, as it reduced direct access bandwidth to the SED-2120 and computing power for the NVR servers.
ACTi's SED-2120 video server provides good video quality with very low latency. D1 images running at 30 frames per second allowed the traffic analysts to view clear and smooth video from a remote location greater than a few kilometers away, not to mention the ability to control the speed dome movements at a small delay time to zoom in on irregular activity if necessary.
Another compelling reason of using ACTi's SED-2120 video server and bundled 64 channel NVR software was because the video quality, features and overall cost of the project met Taipei County's expectations. Furthermore, ACTi's bundled NVR software was very easy to setup and operate for the Traffic center staff.
ACTi's SED-2120 video server and NVR software solution has proved that it is capable of industrial level performance, being able to provide seamless remote video streaming at high quality D1 format, good enough for government projects to further enhance the general public’s living conditions.
