Background
Flexibility and multi device integration is vital for Business Campus security solutions with an eye to expansion in the future. A major consideration in large business campuses is maintaining the security integrity of existing systems as new buildings and areas come on stream which requires to be added to the surveillance system.

 

Procter & Gamble in Newbridge, Co. Kildare has a large Business Campus with multiple building requiring different levels of security and integration with existing systems, GVD worked closely with security installer, SDI Ltd. on a new phase of the site to provide high resolution video surveillance to a new building to the campus. While all cameras were situated in this new building, there was a requirement to record and archive to a NVR in the main communications hub in the head campus building.

 

Solution
With a single mode fibre link around the campus, allowing for fast connectivity, it was decided earlier on to take full advantage of megapixel quality cameras. DSI decided to use the ACTi range of megapixel cameras, based on the quality of image and value for money. 10 units ACM-56111.3 Megapixel Box Cameras (in external housings), 1 unit CAM-6630 IP Speed Dome Camera with 35x optical zoom and 7 units ACM-3511 Megapixel Indoor IR Dome Cameras were installed and cabled back to 3 separate POE switches with fibre ports in the new building. These switches were then linked to the single mode fibre network which allowed footage from all cameras to be recorded and archived in the main campus building. The NVR consists of a Windows^TM Server with Milestone XProtect^TM Professional video management software. Milestone Professional offers unlimited Smart Clients – a Smart Clients – a Smart Client can be installed on any PC on the main P&G network with unique viewing rights for each user as decided by the Security Department. Only the authorized administrator can actually access the Management of the system. The entire system is completely scalable for expansion in the future – and is also open to integrate with Access Control, Alarm, Barriers and Remote Monitoring.

Benefit
ACTi Megapixel cameras provides the superior image quality. Along with Milestone software, the administrator can watch live footage and playback simultaneously. P&G was very satisfied with the system, they claimed “P&G like the fact that the security system is fully flexible and in a way is future proof so that they can add additional cameras and security devices all over one software platform without requiring new software for each new device. Furthermore, there is a huge advantage that the control and access to each of the cameras is simple and easy for all security personnel.”
