Monash University in Australia employs a CCTV Surveillance in and around the campus grounds to provide students, teachers and staff a safe working environment.
As with most analogue based CCTV systems, Monash’s system was ageing, lacked features and was in need of an upgrade. Rather than replacing the outdated Digital Video Recorder(DVR) with another Monash looked to the latest in IP CCTV technology and what it had to offer. The key criteria was that it would still incorporate the use existing cameras whilst at the same time make use of new IP Based surveillance cameras. As a result Monash University employed Evolve Corporate Security (ECS) to provide a cutting edge, future proof surveillance technology. This they did after careful consultation anddesign considerations with the client.
Monash was not new to IP Cameras. In fact ECS had used ACTi CAM-5120 Day & Night cameras on a previous requirement. So successful was the initial installation and commissioning that Monash again employed ECS to provide a solution for their dated DVR system.
A full product demonstration was held at the offices of Alloys NVP (Our Distributor in Australia) for Monash University and their staff. They were immediately impressed with the performance of the ACTi Cameras, Video Servers and the Milestone Xprotect NVR Software for recording.
Converting the existing analogue cameras ECS used the ACTi SED 2100R video servers mounted in a rack with the Milestone Xprotect NVR software for recording.
The ACTi SED-2100R Video servers were chosen as they gave us a Full D1 Resolution (720x576), with variable frame rates and small file size to compensate for bandwidth requirements as thirtycameras would be eventually running on this system.
Moreover, while cabling was carried out, it was a simple matter of plugging the SED-2100R units into a laptop and configuring the network settings via IP Utility and Web Configurator. All 16 units were online very quickly. The whole installation process was online and recording on the same day.

“ACTi's MPEG-4 Video servers give us the ability to upgrade our clients to an IP based system while being able to make use of their existing high quality analogue cameras. Another benefit is the improved resolution. The new system provides Full D1 Resolution. In addition we could take advantage of very usable frame rates and maintain lower bandwidth usage. In short this equates to a cost saving for our clients, our clients have been impressed with the image qualityoffered by the SED-2100R units.” Glenn Radford, Technical Sales Specialist in Evolve Corporate Security.
