ACTi and Milestone secures Top-floor restaurant in Iceland

ACTi IP fixed dome along with Milestone XProtect NVR will be installed by ACTi local solution partner, Security Center of Iceland, in the new trendy top-floor restaurant, Turninn, in a 21-floor building in Smáraturn of Iceland. The two-floor installation is scheduled to be completed by end 2007 to welcome celebrities for up-coming New Year's events.

A plan was drawn up to provide a security system in the reception hall to the inside dinning area, kitchen and bar of the restaurant for restaurant managers to investigate how processes traffic is flowing, and for restaurant security purpose. As the network infrastructure is ready and for the newly furnished restaurant. Key issues under consideration were the need to install IP cameras with PoE (Power over Ethernet) function to facilitate installation.

The restaurant chose to use 13 units of ACTi's MPEG-4 compression PoE IP fixed domes, CAM-7201P,1/3" colour DSP 480 line cameras which can function at a minimum illumination of 0.15 lux in high gain mode at F1.2. The cameras are being used with 16-channel XProtect network video recorder (NVR) from Denmark-based Milestone who is the leader of IP surveillance software developer. Images are monitored remotely by the restaurant manager from the managerial office and can be accessed remotely anytime anywhere with authorized user ID and password.

ACTi brand is well established in Scandinavia, being used by ICA Group in Sweden, one of the Nordic region's leading retail companies with about 2,300 ICA and associated stores in Scandinavia and the Baltic region, and by the Finnish police academy andNorwegian port authority, all of whom report good results with the equipment.

The systems integrator on the project was Security of Iceland, whose Product Manager, Árni Reimarsson, said: "Smooth and clear video quality is a must nowadays for IP cameras, however, most M-JPEG IP cameras can not achieve this without a huge storage space consumption. And not many MPEG-4 IP cameras can provide a real sharp and clear video image. For this reason ACTi units were chosen since they use ACTi in-house design MPEG-4 based compression SoC with Sony DSP censor. The cameras and domes give particularly realistic colors, approximating to what the human eye expects to see and so contributing to user confidence."
