This is the first ever application where ACTi's solutions were implemented for the conservation efforts for the natural environment.  The mining company, Cerro Colorado which belongs to the BHP BILLITON consortium, in the efforts to obtaining ISO 14001 certification, has hired LASP Company to develop a surveillance project for the conservation of the environment in the area of LAGUNILLAS, in the locality of LIRIMA in Chile.

 

 

   

 

 

Through the joint effort between the LASP Company and ACTi’s authorized VAD in Chile, Comdiel Ltda, a complete and unique system was built to fulfill the special requirements that the environment calls for:  

 

   
·    Monitoring of the flora, the land fauna and limnology (aquatic environment) of the area.   

·    Monitoring of relative abundances, densities and coverage of vegetation.   

·    Recount of populations of aquatic and non-aquatic birds.   
 
 

 

A special custom-made mobile platform, designed and manufactured by LASP, is stationed at the monitoring site where the video capturing system and the wireless data transmission system are combined together.  The systems are powered by batteries charged by solar panels on the mobile platform.

 

 

 

 

An ACTi SED-2120T is connected to a Pelco Esprit unit. The SED-2120T is also connected to two outdoor PIR sensors for motion detection near the mobile platform. The MPEG-4 video produced by the SED-2120T is transmitted wirelessly by Cisco’s wireless equipments to the control center miles away from the monitoring site.

 

 

 

At the control center, the MPEG-4 video is input to an ACTi SED-3300 for decoding back to analog video and also to a server station with Milestone Xprotect Professional for viewing, recording, PTZ control, and playback.
