NEXTAN Pte. Ltd., a Singapore based system integrator specializing in network video surveillance and WIFI technologies, successfully implemented ACTi’s CAM-6200 IP Speed Dome with long range WIFI connectivity at the Singapore Pinnacle@Duxton construction site to enhance the security and productivity of the mega construction project, by enabling real time remote monitoring and archiving of the construction activities and progress.
The Pinnacle@Duxton project is the highest class public housing (subsidized by government) ever in Singapore by the Housing Development Board (HDB). It consists of 7 blocks of 50-storey building with a total of 1,848 apartment units when the construction is completed in 2009. The HDB project team initiated the idea of implementing a surveillance speed dome camera with network capability, to be set on the top of a nearby 30-storey building for remote monitoring and archiving of the construction site activities and progress. However, there is no existing network connection between the 30-storeybuilding and the site office, therefore, IP surveillance products with WIFI connectivity were strongly recommended to meet this requirement.
Why chose 
ACTi? ACTi products use Advanced MPEG-4 compression technology. MPEG-4
provides higher compression ratio and much lower bandwidth demand. Although the bandwidth available at the Pinnacle@Dxuton site office is limited (128kbps upload), ACTi’s CAM-6200 MPEG-4 IP Speed Dome still could perform better video quality (8fps @ CIF) comparing to M-JPEG products. Furthermore, with the MPEG-4 compression technology, ACTi products are working very well with WiFi devices. This feature makes the network transmission smoother and also reduces the cabling cost. Besides, by using ACTi Streaming Activator and Streaming Explorer, clients could easily access aerial view and live process of the construction from any remote location by typing a specific IP address onto the browser window, this greatly enhances the productivity.
