Taiwan Cam is a tourism service at www.gov.tw, served as a “Networking Platform” for people who are interested in the famous attractions throughout Taiwan. The website comprises live-view videos of 70 tourist spots with relevant information ranging from local culture, environment, history introduction to transportation details. This is to provide tourists a clear overview of the "hot attraction spots" in the country. It is also designed for people who are not able to experience the “Taiwan Scenery” in person. Through the website they can now watch real-time videos at anytime, anywhere!   

ACTi cooperated with ChungHwa Telecom for the development of this project. 70 tourist attractions are monitored under ACTi IP Speed Dome Cameras. The video data is recorded at the control center with the deployment of ACTi NVR Enterprise. In order to allow instant videos on MyEGovernment (www.gov.tw), the data is transmitted from the control center to broadcast server via ADSL 512K two-way transmission broadband network. Tourists can simply link to “Taiwan Cam” website and all videos of the famous attractions in the country are available for online 24-hours live view. 

ACTi CAM-6630 35x Optical-Zoom IP Speed Domes were adopted to enable a clear view for any objects within 300 meters. The unique features of this model include 360∘endless pan/tilt travel range and pre-set cruise function. The viewing angle is automatically changed every 10 seconds, from which tourists can have a 360∘ video view of the beautiful sceneries at each attraction spot. The weather proof housing with IP 66 certification provides the best solution for surveillance installation at an outdoor environment. 

The implementation of this tourism platform, Taiwan Cam, has already started 5 years ago, yet the MJPEG compression technique it first utilized was not able to produce videos effectively and its heavy bandwidth consumption also led to delayed video images on the website. In order to solve the problem, ChungHwa Telecom deployed ACTi CAM-6630 due to its ability of supporting MPEG4 compression standard. ACTi gives ChungHwa Telecom the most efficient way to upgrade its system under the existing bandwidth condition.

As can be learnt from this joint project of ACTi Corporation and ChungHwa Telecom, the utilization of IP surveillance is no longer limited in security monitoring. It has extended its coverage to the field of tourism promotion. ACTi believes “Connecting Vision” with network videos will create precious values for every industry in the 21st century.
