America's Cup is the most famous and prestigious regatta and Match Race in the sport of sailing. The 2007 America's Cup was the thirty-second regatta vying and was won by Alinghi in the 7th race. Alinghi chose to use ACTi video server to enhance the visual navigation system.

Alinghi already installed analog cameras in regatta to see underwater vision such as regatta's appendages, the keel and rudder. However, they were looking suitable IP camera or a device, which can transmit video streams to notebook on the desk to help navigation purpose.
The problem they encountered is difficult to find suitable IP cameras to fulfill their all requirements. One of most important requirement is to reduce all necessary equipments' weight. Using video servers, acting as IP converter for the analog cameras and making pictures available on the boat's network, is the best alternative solution. Therefore, they decided to choose ACTi 2-channel video server, SED-2420, together with small analog bullet camera equipped with water proof function. ACTi provides complete SDK to allow Alinghi's team to integrate ACTi video servers with their navigation application is additional benefit.
"That's what we have chosen for our America's Cup boat, and we have been very happy using it. We developed an easy interface with the SDK. We never had any failure in the system." Said by Francois Nivelleau, Engineer of Alinghi team. Francois is responsible for on-board measurements & experiments.
If you never join America's Cup before, welcome to visit Valencia in 2009 to join 33rd America's Cup great event!
